Frequently asked questions
What makes TrueHunt different from regular cat food?
TrueHunt is built for obligate carnivores – meat-first, prey-inspired recipes with high protein, moisture and moderate fat, and very low carbs. In simple words: it’s made to look and behave more like what a cat would naturally eat, while still being safe, convenient daily food for your indoor cat.
Is TrueHunt “complete & balanced” or just a treat?
Each TrueHunt pouch clearly states on the pack that it is complete and balanced. Our recipes are formulated to meet recognised nutrient guidelines for all life stages, so when you feed the recommended daily amount (plus fresh water), they provide all the essential nutrients your cat needs.
How do I know how much to feed my cat? Is there a simple way to calculate it?
You can use a basic vet formula called RER (Resting Energy Requirement) and then match it to the kcal on our pouch.
1. Calculate your cat’s calories (RER):
RER (kcal/day) = 70 × (body weight in kg)^0.75
For most healthy, neutered indoor adults, daily needs ≈ 1.2 × RER.
Example – 3 kg adult cat:
- RER = 70 × (3^0.75) ≈ 160 kcal/day
- Daily calories ≈ 1.2 × 160 ≈ 190 kcal/day
2. Match it to TrueHunt pouches:
Check the kcal per pouch on the TrueHunt pack, then:
Daily pouches ≈
Daily calories ÷ kcal per pouch
For example, if a recipe has 70 kcal per pouch:
190 ÷ 70 ≈ 2.7 → about 2½–3 pouches per day, adjusted up or down based on your cat’s body condition.
Use this as a starting point, then tweak slightly based on whether your cat is gaining or losing weight.
Do you add artificial preservatives, colours or flavours? How is the food preserved?.
TrueHunt is preserved by cooking and packaging, not by artificial chemicals. Each pouch is gently cooked using retort technology to kill harmful microbes and then sealed, so it stays safe on the shelf until you open it. We do not add artificial preservatives, colours or flavours – the aroma and taste come from real meat, organs and broth.
How should I store unopened and opened TrueHunt pouches?
Store unopened pouches in a cool, dry place away from heat and sunlight, and use before the “Best Before” date. Once opened, transfer leftovers to a covered container, refrigerate immediately, and use within 1–2 days. Don’t leave wet food out in the bowl for more than 3–4 hours.
Where is TrueHunt made and how do you ensure safety?
TrueHunt is manufactured in vetted facilities that follow food-safety systems such as HACCP, with batch-wise quality checks for microbiology and nutrient levels. Production involves temperature-controlled cooking and sealing to make the food safe and shelf-stable, as is standard for high-quality wet pet foods. We also conduct periodic third-party lab testing to verify key nutrients and microbial safety.
